Thrift Store Reselling Brands to Avoid

In my Finds of the Week I share with you some of the top thrift store brands to resell, but you should also be aware of the top brands to avoid.

Please note that there are exceptions for each brand; for example, if you find a leather jacket for any of the brands mentioned.  However,  the following list is based on my personal reselling strategy and from my past experiences.

For whatever reason (too many people selling the brand, it’s already cheap to buy at the store, or it doens’t retain it’s value well), these brand name have failed to produce the profit that I look for and  I no longer purchase them from thrift stores.  I’ve made my share of mistakes as a thrift store reseller and a lot of it is related to buying the wrong brands.  Hopefully you can learn from my mistakes and avoid some of the headaches in the process.

Here are some brands to avoid:

  • Old Navy
  • Gap
  • Banana Republic
  • Sean John
  • Rocawear
  • And 1
  • Charlotte Russe
  • American Eagle
  • Marc Ecko
  • City Triangle Dresses
  • Forever 21
  • BCX dresses
  • L-R-G
  • Aeropostale
  • American Rag
  • St. John’s Bay

In no way is the definitive list of brands to avoid but I think it’s a good start.  I plan to constantly update this list so that you can avoid some of the “landmines” that are waiting for you in the store.

Remember:  it’s all about the brand name.   If you find the right brand I guarantee you that there’s somebody out there who’s looking for it!

Hope you’re all having a great week and good luck with the treasure-hunt!
