Thrift Store Items You Can Resell on eBay (2/21/2013)
Hi and welcome to the February 21, 2013 edition of Thrift Store Items You Can Resell on eBay!
Each week I’ll post several pics of thrift store items that I’ve recently sold on eBay, as well as share with you the profits that I’ve made for that item.
I apologize for the lack of updates recently but, honestly, there really wasn’t much to update on my end. I realized a few weeks ago that I was starting to accumulate a lot of inventory that wasn’t selling (even after several re-listings) so I made a decision to cut back on my visits to the thrift stores. Instead, I’ve just been listing those non-performing items for $0.99-$9.99 and trying to see what I can get for them. The interesting (or perhaps, frustrating) thing is that several of my auctions actually sell better once I’ve lowered the starting price. It makes me wonder why they didn’t just bid on it during previous listings?!
The majority of thrift store items that I’m currently selling are from previous visits and I probably won’t start my normal thrift store routines for another week, or until I get rid of some of these items. I did, however, find some great items during some of my recent visits so I hope you enjoy!
Finds of the Week
Vintage Anfernee Hardaway Phoenix Suns Jersey
Item Cost: $3.99
Winning Bid: $33.00
BKE Rhinestone Jeans
Item Cost: $6.99
Winning Bid: $47.00
New Balance 993 Marine Edition
Item Cost: $6.99
Winning Bid: $49.99

I have noticed the same thing. I will list an item a couple of times and if it doesn’t sell, I will lower it to $9.99 and many times it ends up selling for more than my original listing price of $24.99. Crazy indeed!
It’s funny isn’t it? I think a little bit of psychology plays into it. “Wait, that person wants it?! Now I want it too!” Oh well, whatever gets the job done!
Hope you’re having a great week,
Meinard
Hi Margaret,
I don’t remember ever using the reserve option on any of my listings. I agree, there’s always a chance that your item will sell for only $0.99 – and it’s already happened to several of my items – but by the time I list an item for $0.99 or $9.99 then it means that I really don’t care too much any more and my goal is to just sell the item. It’s a win-win: I get some of my money back and someone got an amazing deal!
Hope you’re having a great day,
Meinard
