Finds of the Week (May 30, 2014) [Updated]

[I just added a new item in the Finds of the Week section.  The buyer paid immediately after the post went live]

The Show Must Go On

With all the recent events that transpired, it’s definitely been an interesting month on eBay land.  Hopefully we’ve all taken the necessary steps to protect our information online as a result of the data breach (seriously, if you haven’t changed your password by now, what exactly are you waiting for?) and as for the Google Penalty…well, there’s nothing that WE can really do about that.  That’s all on eBay.

So at this point, there’s really nothing left for sellers to do but acknowledge that these events occurred and just move on.  The month of May was definitely a down month for me in terms of sales but I’m not ready to blame that entirely on these recent events – I also lost about a 10 days of sales because of my recent trip and I haven’t visited the thrift stores as often as I normally do because of other obligations.  But that’s about to change soon.  I plan on hitting the thrift stores really hard these next days and I’m really focusing on getting my activity level up again.

Despite the dip in sales, I still had some pretty great sales and I’m sure you guys did as well.  I had a bunch of NBA and basketball related auctions that did really well (probably because the NBA Playoffs in on right now).   Lately I’ve been finding some really great NFL gear as well, so I’m eagerly awaiting for the start of the season so those rabid fans can wake from their hibernation and start opening their wallets again in support of their teams.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy this weeks finds.  If the month of May was a great month for you, congratulations and keep it up!  If you know you can do better (like me), then let’s pick ourselves up and DO THE WORK!

Have a great weekend!

  1. thankfully my sales are steady if not up since those events 😀 getting ready to dive back into amazon just in case.

    1. Glad to hear your sales are doing well, and it never hurts to have another income stream – the more, the merrier!

  2. Tips and tricks on getting rid of the old musty smell from the thrift store?I don’t want to wash it and have it look old and wrinkly, there must be a way.

    1. For me, If the smell is overwhelming then I just leave it behind. But if it’s only minor, a couple of hours air-drying in the sun usually does the trick for me. Good luck!

  3. Hey Meinard, I was curious about your reasoning on some auctions. I noticed that you had a few auction items that ending at the $9.99 price. Wondering why you start them so low? Why not start them at $19.99 or higher? And if they don’t sell, then just relist? Do you start them lower as lower priced auctions have higher search rankings?

    1. Hi Margaret, I usually like to start my auctions at $24.99 but I lowered the starting price for those auctions because I’m getting a lot of watchers but no bids on those items. By lowering the initial price, I’m trying to get that all-important 1st bid so I can hopefully get a bidding war going. Well, that’s the plan anyway – I’ll let you know how it goes. Hope sales are amazing at your neck of the woods!

  4. I found some clarks in great condition, But they are mens. Are they good sellers too? or is it only for womens?

    1. Clarks are great sellers, especially for men, but the style matters. Some of the styles to look for are the Desert Chukka, Wallabees, Desert Mali, and the Desert Trek. These names are usually printed on the inside, on the shoe tongue or around the ankle collar. Good luck!
